Hurricanes, Earthquakes and Dinner Parties

Well this sure has been quite a welcome to New York. Between an earthquake, Irene and realizing that a Corona costs $10 in this town, it has been quite a shocking first week here. I have been insanely busy with orientation, have met more amazing people than I ever could have imagined, and despite my current state of exhaustion, it has been an absolute blast thus far!

To kick off starting school, we had an amazing boat ride and dinner party on Ellis Island.
How gorgeous is this sunset?

The city shutting down for the entire weekend was a blessing in disguise in my book since I watched 6 movies got some much needed relaxation and got to spend some great quality time with the fam. I forgot how much I have missed Mom's home cooked meals!

Hopefully anyone who was affected by the storm is safe and sound.
Happy week!

{Welcome to NYC} Weekend in photos

Happy Monday! This past weekend was my first weekend as an official New Yorker (again). Even though I left Columbus in tears on Thursday, I ended up having a fantastic weekend getting myself reacquainted with my new home. Between tours of the neighborhood from my temporary roomie (aka Mom), dinner with friends, a movie and a visit from Ashley.  Oh and did I mention the shopping!?! Went a little too crazy on Saturday...this place is going to be severely dangerous for my very limited student budget. Such a fun weekend and I can't believe it is Sunday night already. My last night before I am officially an MBA student! Scary. Anyway, here are a few photos from around the neighborhood this weekend.

A night on the town with Ashley at Ofrenda in the West Village. BEST. ENCHILADAS. EVER.

Sunday breakfast on the roof deck

As I'm writing this post it's Sunday night and I'm relaxing on the couch missing my man and my pup, but I am very excited for my first day of orientation at NYU tomorrow!
Here we go grad school, let's do this.

Packing for the Big Apple

Whoa I have been packing like a mad woman that past few days! It is pretty tough trying to cram everything from our 2 bedroom house into boxes that will need to fit into a MUCH smaller space in New York. Now I wouldn't consider myself an official A&E style hoarder, however somehow I end up with so much stuff that I don't even know where half of it came from or why I have moved it around from place to place! I am trying to purge as much as possible and it feels great to get rid of so much stuff. Anyway, my bf is not going to be very happy once he finds out I took a packing break to blog so back to work I go! Wishing I had some of these pretty vintage suitcases to pack my treasures in, but I guess cardboard boxes and crush paper will have to do for now.

Weekend in {instagram} photos

Happy Monday! I had such a great time this past weekend (and week) fully taking advantage of my time off before starting school in a few weeks. I hit up a ton of my favorite Columbus hot spots, eating and drinking with friends. I think I am still in a food coma since I have pretty much been on a food binge since last Wednesday, making sure to get in all of my favorite meals here that I am going to miss. I also got to spend some time at the beach with family early last week, soaking up some sun, enjoying quality family time and stuffing myself full of delicious sea food of course. I seriously don't think I could ever get enough shell fish, soooo good! (Okay so I guess I have been eating like a maniac since Monday...oops). Anyway, the next few days are jammed full of packing and getting myself organized for the big moving day on Thursday! Here are a few snapshots of the past week. Hope yours is off to a great start!

Ode to the Juicytube

Of all of the beauty products, lipgloss is by far my biggest weakness. I am a lipgloss junkie! Out of all of the glosses I have put to the test, Lancome juicytubes are by far the creme de la creme. The perfect balance of shine without being too sticky these little tubes of magic are available in a fabulous array of colors.

Sunday Brunch: Breakfast Casserole

Good morning! It has been a while since I have shared a Sunday Brunch recipe, but this casserole made with eggs, cheese, bread and sausage is by far the favorite in our house for brunch parties or just your typical lazy Sunday morning! The best part about this recipe is that it is super easy and you can easily change it up by adding in any of your favorite breakfast ingredients.
You will need:

*You can make this vegetarian by nixing the sausage and replacing with some chopped peppers, onions, tomatoes, etc. The recipe tastes best if you prepare it the night before to allow all of the flavors to soak together and then bake it in the morning.

Brown the breakfast sausage in a skillet over medium heat until cooked through. Cut the bread into cubes and bake in the oven at 400 degrees for about 10 minutes or until toasted. While those are cooking, mix together the eggs, cheese, cream, salt and pepper in a large bowl. Once the sausage and bread are done, add them to the bowl and mix all together until the bread is covered with egg mixture. Cover and refrigerate overnight.

The next morning, pour mixture into a baking dish and bake covered on 350 degrees for about 30-40 minutes or until the casserole is set. Makes about 8-10 servings.
Enjoy!

A Waterfront Wedding!

This past weekend I had the honor of being a bridesmaid to my most favorite bride! Caroline & Gordon's wedding was absolutely beautiful. Out on the water in Hartford, Connecticut, we danced, we ate, we drank and had the best time! I loved getting ready with all of the girls at Caroline's house, getting primped and pampered by the hair and makeup ladies. I played paparazzi as per usual and these are some of my favorite photos from the day. Right now Caro and Gordon are on their honeymoon relaxing on the beach in Maui (of which I'm only a teeny bit jealous).  Congratulations to the new Mr. & Mrs. Hines! Love you!

Ch-ch-changes

Hi Friends! Hope you are having a good week. Well I have been completely mia from blogging lately, but there are some major changes happening in my life and things have been very exciting and crazy recently! This past Monday was my last day at my job as a merchandiser at Abercrombie & Fitch where I have worked for the last 6 years. So crazy! I cannot believe I have #1 been working there for that long and #2 out of college for SIX YEARS. Where does the time go? I hope I remember how to be a student because I am moving to New York to go to grad school! This move is very bitter sweet since I am so sad to leave Columbus, a city I have truly grown to love over the past 6 years and the great friends who have become like family. But, I am so excited to move back home to be closer to family and friends and live in one of my favorite cities! Leaving my job to go back to school is unbelievably daunting but I cannot wait to start my new adventure!
So now that you know my big news, I will try to post as much as I can in the next few weeks, but it is going to be a very busy time between looking for a new apartment (day one: not off to a great start, eek!), packing, moving and starting school...there is just so much to do!
